An Area Rug will Revitalize Any Room in Your Home
The oldest surviving of all area rugs, which was called the “Pazyrk carpet”, was found in 1949 during an archaeological unearthing in the Siberian region. Due to the frozen nature of the rug, the color and design of the rug was well preserved for thousands of years. It dates back to the 5th Century BC, where the Pazyryk carpet was considered an advanced work of Scythian art, which has exquisite details, perfectly shaped patterns, vibrant colors, and uses a hand-knotted technique that is still widely practiced today.
Prior to this discovery of this Pazyryk carpet, the very oldest known area rug was the King of Persia’s renowned rug, which is a colossal area rug made of silk, wool, gold, silver, as well as many precious stones, and created using the hand-knotted technique. It dates back to around 550 BC, and it measured 400′ by 100′, weighing several thousand pounds. The King was said to have frequently strolled along the seemingly endless, beautifully bejeweled carpet during the winter months so to savor its many wonderful springtime scenes. These scenes were flowers in full blossom, birds in flight, ripe fruits, and had a broad “green meadow” border which is thought to be nothing but pure emeralds.
Area rugs today continue to have a rather significant role in the artistic traditions of many cultures around the world, from the geometrically intricate Ayacucho designs in the regions of Peru, and to those wildly contemporary sisal area rugs in Brazil, to the Persian rugs created in Iran.
Interior designers most often will recommend area rugs to be the easiest and simplest design element obtainable with which to totally recreate a room, or to revitalize already existing décor, while at the same time providing warmth, and depth, while adding floor protection.
When getting yourself a rug such as this you should remember to select area rugs that best suit your practical needs. In areas with a high amount of foot-traffic, consider darker colors, patterns, and sturdy fabrics. You should remember to keep light colored rugs in areas where the room is open and has an airy feel to it.
