Prior to this discovery of this Pazyryk carpet, the very oldest known area rug was the King of Persia’s renowned rug, which is a colossal area rug made of silk, wool, gold, silver, as well as many precious stones, and created using the hand-knotted technique. It dates back to around 550 BC, and it measured 400′ by 100′, weighing several thousand pounds.
